The challenges increasingly polarised societies are posing to politics

More and more people are frustrated by politicians and polarisation is on the rise in many countries, as is reflected by polling and election results. How are the established political parties in the Netherlands and Germany dealing with these challenges?

 

What lessons can be learnt from the state elections in Bavaria and Hesse? What are the similarities and differences? What can we learn from them and what do they mean in terms of making our democracies more resilient?

These and many other questions were discussed by Prof. Dr. Klaus GOETZ, Professor of Political Systems at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and Dr. Hanco JÜRGENS, Research Fellow at the Deutschland Institut in Amsterdam, under the moderation of Caroline de GRUYTER, journalist at the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad.
