Adriaan P V Kühn, Director of the Robert Schuman Institute of European Studies at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria Madrid, is a political scientist with a Dutch-German background, dedicated to exploring the intersection of politics, ethics, and European integration. A former member of the German National Field Hockey Team, Kühn brings the same strategic mindset and team spirit from the field into his work in academia and public policy.

At the helm of the Robert Schuman Institute, Kühn leads a transdisciplinary center that not only advances academic research but also applies for research funding and fosters intellectual debate. The Institute serves as a hub for scholars, policymakers, and students to engage in discussions about Europe’s evolving role in global affairs. Beyond research, it organizes debates and public events on the future of Europe, engaging both the university community and a wider audience in critical conversations about current political challenges.

One of the Institute’s flagship events is the upcoming international congress, “Shared Horizons: Rethinking the Common Good in Europe”, which will take place on September 24-25, 2025, on the UFV campus in Madrid. The event will bring together leading academics, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss key issues such as European identity, security and defense, economic competitiveness, institutional reforms, global partnerships, and Europe’s long-term strategic vision. Supported by renowned institutions and think tanks, the conference aims to foster insightful dialogue and actionable strategies to shape Europe's future in an increasingly complex world.

With a career spanning academia, civic education, and policy advisory roles, Kühn is passionate about bridging the gap between scholarly expertise and real-world decision-making. Through his work at the Robert Schuman Institute, he remains committed to fostering critical thinking, informed debate, and a renewed vision for Europe’s future.
